Following a detailed evaluation of the presentations and the submitted abstracts, the committee composed by Prof. Gabriele Moser (Univ. Genova), Prof. Fabio Dell'Acqua (Univ. Pavia) and Prof. Giampaolo Ferraioli (Univ. Napoli "Parthenope") assigned the best oral and the best poster paper awards, sponsored by the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society, to the following two young researchers:

  • Best oral paper award to Nertjana Ustalli (Univ. Roma "La Sapienza") for the paper entitled "Kinematic parameters estimation in forward scatter radar configuration".

  • Best poster paper award to Michele Ambrosanio (Univ. Napoli "Parthenope") for the paper entitled "Wavelet decomposition basis for mixed-norm strategies in ground-penetrating radar applications".

The article "Reduced Complexity Kalman Filtering for Phase Recovery in XPIC Systems" has been published on Elsevier Physical Communication.

The authors are: Farzana Kulsoom, Anna Vizziello, and Pietro Savazzi (TLC group), and Roberta Borra (SIAE Microlettronica)

The final version of the paper will be available for a limited period of time at the followink link:

The Lombardy Aerospace Industry Cluster - of which our University is a member- was founded in Italy in 2014 as the final step in constructing a representative institution for the regional system of aerospace industries. The first activities of the newly founded cluster were aimed at defining its strategies. An important item in the action list consisted of an in-depth review of aerospace activities at the regional, national, and supranational level, in order to help steering the future strategic plan of the cluster toward optimal goals. This review is still being carried out, mostly through volunteer contributions from both industry and academia, and it includes education-related aspects of the aerospace system in addition to production, research, and other issues.

Prof. Dara Entekhabi is professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and at the Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston, USA. He is also the Science Team Leader of the NASA Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) Satellite Mission.

His short course will present the theory, the applications and examples of real-world use of joint passive and active microwave sensing for environmental monitoring and modelling. The short course is part of the Radar Remote Sensing course taught by prof. Fabio Dell'Acqua, and is also credited for PhD students.
