A system with heterogeneous PUs and CRs is considered. We have proposed a novel PU type recognition to improve the environment awareness and CR interference and throughput adaptability. Simulation results have shown that CR throughput adaptation depends on each feature of heterogeneous PU signals.
Moreover, it is possible to take advantages from the obtained improvement of CR adaptability to design efficient tools in CR networks. In particular, we focused our attention on Cognitive Radio Resource Management. Simulation results have shown performance improvements by considering heterogeneous PUs and variable CR requirements. These improvements are observed by higher achieved data rates, and hence less wasted available capacity and higher satisfaction rate (percentage of served CR users out of total number of CR users).
